A medication known as argatroban, when combined with another drug already used in the treatment of stroke patients, may help restore the flow of blood through blocked arteries, according to a preliminary study in the August issue of Archives of Neurology, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

Gout Increases Risk Of Heart Attack, According To Study 
People with gout are at increased risk of having a heart attack, according to a University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine study published in the August edition of the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism. This is the first study to show that among men with no previous history of coronary artery disease, gout is a significant independent risk factor of heart attack.

Study Reveals How Cells Destroy Faulty Proteins In Cystic Fibrosis 
The cellular system that degrades faulty proteins created by the cystic fibrosis gene has been identified by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill scientists. Turning off the degradation system allows some proteins to regain their proper shape, offering a new avenue for treatments aimed at curing the disease.
